Project Manager II

Our client is a nationally recognized utility construction company who provides critical infrastructure for the power, oil & gas pipeline, gas distribution, and communications industries for 90+ years. They have consistently ranked in the top 10 of Engineering News-Record's Specialty Contractors.
They are currently looking for a Project Manager for their office in Irwindale, CA.
The Project Manager partners with superintendents and executive management to provide oversight for all phases of construction. 
An ideal candidate will lead by example in an environment that fosters safety, candor, trust, quality, continuous improvement, lean construction practices, and personal accountability.
  • Direct Reports
Foster a positive work environment through coaching, encouragement, morale building, and projecting a can-do attitude.
Manage a team of administrators, associate project managers, field engineers, material technicians, and construction coordinators.
Supervise direct reports and apply discipline as necessary for compliance with extended hour requests, paid time off, time sheet documentation, and work schedules.
Submitting new job requisitions and participate in interviewing prospective team members.
Provide consistent employee and contract worker performance evaluations annually and as needed.
Ensures that team goals, roles, protocols, and business relationships are consistent with high-performance requirements and congruent with the Company's strategy.
Constantly identify and coordinate training for workers to improve productivity and customer service.
  • Customer Service
Provide exceptional customer service to client construction managers, project managers, and other key client stakeholders.
Navigate through disputes between client stakeholders for a favorable outcome.
Review and respond to emails, text messages, phone calls, and other means of communication in a timely manner.
Maintain a positive working relationship with client representatives, local labor unions, government agencies, peers, and management.
Produce incident reports to client representative for minor incidents, such as property damage, equipment damage, public complaints and negative observations.
  • Work Execution
Promotes continuous improvement of methodology, tools and approaches using fundamentals of the Company"s Project management practices while training and providing project management guidance to associates and field engineers.
Work with the general public and agencies to receiving necessary permitting, permission, and agreements to perform field work without delay or false starts.
Develop and maintain schedules for all work activities.
Coordinate kickoff meetings for large projects to develop necessary plans and documentation for executing work on-time and on-budget.
Review and respond to client report card metrics for product delivery and variances.
Collaborate with Project Management Office to effectively apply Project Methodologies the new techniques and training.
Provide solutions to stakeholders and peers for identified issues.
Lead or actively participate in incident / claims investigations.
Lead or participate in monthly and quarterly performance review presentations to executive management.
Develop and implement mitigation plans to manage risk.
Completion of the Company"s PMO training and formal Project Management coursework.
  • Profit and Budgets
Monitor metrics and provide reports as requested (daily, weekly, as needed) on productivity, safety, quality, and financial performance to management and stakeholders.
Negotiate, track and get approval for change orders.
Work closely with Project Controls to manage budgets for existing work, new work, and change orders.
Provide profitability forecasts for new and ongoing projects.
Monitor and assist with maintaining positive cash flow through timely invoicing and cash collection.
Lead or actively participate in cost estimating efforts.
  • Sub-Contractors and Vendors
Manage sub-contractor performance for safety, quality, pricing, and productivity.
Visit sub-contractor office or job sites to promote a collaborative partnership.
Review, track, and approve sub-contractor estimates, proposals, and onboarding.
Submit requests for new vendors.
Participate in contract and rate negotiations with new and existing sub-contractors.
Review and approve project and program purchase order requisitions and invoices.
  • Data Integrity and Systems
Assist with resolving information technology and hardware issues for office and field people as needed.
Maintain data integrity within data management systems and tracking sheets.
Submit and track access requests to internal and client systems for office and field.
Required Skills:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience in overseeing construction activities and strong knowledge of construction and utility industry practices
Exposure to industry relevant software and MS Office applications
Complex problem-solving skills
Minimum Educational Background:
BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
