Our client is a Global supply chain company providing transportation, logistics, materials handling, and other industrial services.  They are looking for an Estimator to support design, procure and construct Industrial Capital Projects on time and on budget during all phases of the project from their corporate office in Salt Lake City, UT.
This person will be responsible to assist with defining equipment, material and labor costs for industrial projects centered on solid and liquid bulk handling, transportation and storage.  Work with Project Controls to develop and implement applicable processes and procedures to mitigate risk and facilitate project execution.  A successful candidate will have prior experience with Rail or Marine industrial projects.
This person will also be responsible for:
  • Provide support for Capital Projects Team and Front End Engineering and Design (FEED)
  • Perform cost, schedule and procurement research
  • Ability to work towards creative solutions for customer challenges
  • Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, safety, operational, and commercial objectives
  • Identify applicable permits
  • Interface with outside resources and partners to complete tasks
  • Provide support for internal operations projects
  • Identify and prioritize critical tasks
  • Assist with project estimates and technical proposals to ensure a qualified, accurate and timely submission
  • Perform material take-offs, organize pre-bid data, research historical costs and develop the construction sequence for architectural, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines
  • Cultivate strong business relationships with industry partners, owners, subcontractors and internal corporate teams
  • Assist with pre-bid construction documents, questions, bond/insurance requests and project schedules
  • Participate in bid reviews, constructability studies and provide relevant technical solutions to stakeholders
  • Manage and facilitate formulation of bid phase project risk registers
  • Assist with estimates for labor, material and equipment prices based on historical data, costs books (RS Means or other) and local price quotes
  • Assist with preparation of cost sheets in industry standard software (MCACES Gold, Success, Timberline, Hard Dollar, etc.)
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by management. Travel as required to attend meetings, site visits, training, etc.
  • Help ensure designs meet applicable building codes including all safety, operational, and commercial objectives
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations
Required Experience:
  • BS/BA Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal skills
  • Ability to work well and multitask under pressure
  • Estimating experience is required
  • Familiarity with processes and practices of heavy industries such as rail, transportation, power, mining, refineries, mineral processing, marine, etc.
  • Experience with development of capital budgets, schedules, and work breakdown structures
  • Ability to read, understand and review drawing sets with Engineers and Contractors
  • Ability to develop estimates based on preliminary drawings and conceptual information
  • Ability to work in design/build environments
  • Strong problem solving, communication and negotiating experience
  • Ability to analyze drawings, specifications, proposals and others documents
  • Experience preparing bid packages and performing analysis of vendor/supplier bid packages
  • Excellent knowledge of construction practices, current codes, methods, trends, conditions and safety standards
  • Strong problem solving, communication and negotiating experience
  • Very high attention to detail
  • Willingness to participate in an employee based safety program and contribute to a rich safety culture
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Planning and Scheduling is a plus (MS Project and/or Primavera)
  • Multi-disciplined estimating experience is preferred
Physical/Travel Requirements:
  • This position is based out of the Salt Lake City Service/Support Center, which is a professional office environment
  • Frequent site visits to industrial facilities, which require walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and other similar activities
  • Travel will average between 10-20%, but may be higher depending upon team needs. Travel is typically during the week.
