PROCESS ENGINEER - Refinery

POSITION SUMMARY  

The Process Engineer position provides process engineering support for the troubleshooting, project evaluations, equipment sizing, rating and design, incident and PHA action items closure, heat and material balance development, process simulation and economic improvements.  The role provides field support for projects and troubleshooting.  The position initiates and supports MOC’s and PHA revalidations and is an integral part of the PSM process.
 
KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Prepares heat and material balances, sizes and rates equipment, hydraulic analysis and does flowsheet simulation for assigned projects.  Prepares process flow diagrams (PFD) and P&ID’s as required
  • Performs relief valve sizing and review per API recommended practices
  • Prepare process design reports, technical evaluations and project funding requests (AFE) as required
  • Supports the Technical Service Engineers, Operations, Environmental and Maintenance as required
  • Uses flowsheet and equipment specific simulation software packages
  • Identifies potential operating improvements and develops improvement plans for value capture
  • Maintains understanding of technology changes and developments in the refining industry
  • Develop and prepare preliminary scope for improvement initiatives
  • Support maintenance and capital improvement projects
  • Support turnarounds and capital project implementation as required
  • Participate on and/or lead incident investigations as required
  • Provide support for unit training and operating manuals
  • Support LP sub-model development as required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:
  • Requires a BS in Chemical Engineering, or degree in a closely related engineering discipline with relevant industry experience
Experience:
  • Previous process engineering experience desired, preferably in a refinery or related industry
Special Skills and Requirements:
  • Experience with MS Office business systems (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) required
  • Familiarity with flow sheet simulation strongly desired; Simulation Sciences Suite preferred
  • Must be available to work outdoors for extended hours, nights and weekends as required for refinery support
